2013 Summer Camp Scholarship

Through the generous support of the Hammerman Family, in cooperation with The Southlands Foundation, two scholarships for our summer camp program will be awarded in 2013

One Young Rider Scholarship Available for Session 2 (7/1- 7/5)

Target: 6 years and older, first time riders or those with little riding experience

– One Junior Rider Scholarship Available for Session 1 (6/24- 6/28) OR Session 2 (7/1-7/5)

Target: 8 years and older, secure at the canter

The scholarships are intended for children who have demonstrated an interest and commitment to horsemanship and who commit to improving themselves in some manner through attending camp; however, they are unable to attend due to financial considerations.

The following must be returned to the Scholarship Committee (c/o The Southlands Foundation, 5771 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY 12572) as soon as possible. Applicants will be informed no later than June 20th.

1.) A short essay by the applicant (no more than 500 words) addressing the role of horses and riding in their daily life. For example, how a second week of camp could help them achieve personal or emotional goals (confidence, building relationships with others) or riding goals (posting, jumping, or learning some aspect of horse care). Essays can be supported by original drawings, artwork or photos. Candidates should also describe how they would know that they have met their goal.

2.) A brief description of financial need/justification by the applicant’s parent(s), guardian.

Additional considerations:
Scholarship winners may not receive a scholarship for more than two consecutive years.

2.) Applications will be judged based on both subjective and weighted criteria.
