Spring has sprung, and exciting things are happening at Southlands!

posted April 24, 2014

We at Southlands are incredibly lucky to share our love for our horses and beautiful grounds with each other. And as spring moves in to summer, we have many shows, camps and the prospect of finally enjoying the great outdoors to look forward to. In addition to the South Barn renovation under way (more about that in the coming weeks) we also have two really fantastic projects in the works underwritten by the wonderful generosity of a number of members.

The first project, sponsored by Burton Kassell, will be a very badly needed complete renovation and upgrade of the bathrooms and shower. The downstairs bathrooms and locker room will be converted to two modern bathrooms, and the upstairs bathroom will be upgraded and include a brand new shower. How wonderful is that?!

The other major effort, graciously funded by anonymous donors is an entirely new maintenance building to protect our tractor, mowers and other valuable equipment from Mother Nature. In addition, it will have space for a small shop area for repair projects. We’d also like to recognize the enormous amount of time and effort that Nancy Strohsahl and Robert Nieuwenhuizen have put in to bring this project to life.

We plan to start these projects in the next couple of weeks and will do our best to minimize disruption in the barn and on the grounds. However, we ask that you try to steer clear of the construction to allow the work to progress rapidly and safely.

We on the Board are extremely excited about these projects and send our enormous thanks to the donors!
