The Southlands Foundation ~ Fall 2006 Update

 

As painful as it was for me to write, "Fall 2006" is upon us. With the changing of the leaves, comes other changes and many events to report on!

Programs:

We are thrilled and proud to be collaborating with Reinhard and Leslie Bell Teetor for the outside horse show program. Reinhard is a well-known trainer, instructor and course designer in the Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess County areas. Many of Reinhard's clients have gone on to become champions, reserve champions and class winners at a long list of well-known Hunter/Jumper venues from the Hampton Classics, to HITS, to Devon, to Washington to Holland and Germany. He has trained or worked with some of the top equestrians, including Dr. Reiner Klimke, Michael Page, George Morris , Bert DeNemethy and Arthur McCashin only to name a few.  Leslie is also a very well known trainer and judge in her own right. There will be more details to follow very soon.

Calendar:

Holiday Gala~ Please mark your calendars now for our biggest fundraising effort of the year. November 11 is the date and the new Grandview on the Poughkeepsie waterfront is the place. The Gala committee is hard at work putting together many wonderful items for our silent auction and planning a wonderful program. If you have ideas for auction items or something you would like to donate, please let Colleen know. Items that do well are jewelry, hotel/b&b stays, time-share stays, sports/theater tickets, or antique/vintage items.

Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show~ Saturday, October 14th. Please sign up or let your instructor know if you are interested in participating.

Fall Fun Day~ Saturday, October 21st. We'll have an afternoon of games and goodies. Feel free to wear a costume! Details will follow.

Adult Gymkhana~ Saturday morning, October 28th. Please come prepared to ride and laugh! This is a chance to test your riding skills without having to participate in a show. Watch the bulletin board outside the office for more information and to sign up.

Eric Horgan Clinic~ Tuesday & Wednesday, November 21st & 22nd.

Departures:

We lost our beloved Omar just yesterday. He was 29 years old and retired for nearly a year. He will be very missed by so many people and helped generations of students learn to ride. Thank you, Omar!

We also said good-bye to trainer Leah Epstein. We thank her for all the hard work she put in while she was here and wish her all the best for a successful career in the horse show world!
