Susie Williams
Susie began riding at
Southlands as a child, taking lessons when she was six with Mrs.
Dows. At 14, she studied with Harry deLeve at the Knox School for
Girls in St. James, NY. Susie studied at the University of Denver
and received a BS in Secondary Education and Social Sciences in
1972. She has worked on and off at Southlands since the 1970s,
managing the organization for a short time in the 1970s, and
becoming the head instructor in 1989.
Based on over 30 years of
experience with horses, teaching and training, Susie’s teaching
philosophy reflects her thinking about the different reasons that
people come to ride. She believes that despite these differences, we
are a higher power than the horse, and we are therefore responsible
for the well-being of the horse.
Susie has worked over the
years with dozens of different clinicians and trainers, which have
provided her with a range of perspectives. She specializes in
combined training. |
