A Variety of Riding Programs

The balance seat and classic dressage are the impetus for all instruction at Southlands.  The primary goal is to create competent, relaxed pleasure riders and horses.  Our intention is to introduce our students to a broad range of equestrian activities, including equitation, showing hunters, trail riding, jumpers, cross country and dressage from the beginner level through advanced.

Southlands conducts a full range of equestrian activities on site including unrecognized horse shows, dressage shows, cross county schooling trails, mock hunts, specialized clinics with nationally and internationally recognized instructors, as well as summer programs and on-going after school programs.  We also provide coaching and transportation to off site shows.  Many of our horses and riders have done extremely well at those shows such as Old Salem, HITS, and Gardnertown, as well as smaller local shows.  Southlands is home to the Southlands Pony Club which conducts their mounted and unmounted activities on the grounds.  Along with this traditional aspect of horseback riding, Southlands also occasionally offers educational seminars, gymkhanas, lead and treasure hunts, field trips, drill riding, fund raisers and community service activities.  We also offer pony rides by appointment.

Southlands has a long history of teaching the classic fundamental of safe and sound horsemanship to children and adults alike.  Our excellent teaching maintains its heritage of the highest quality equestrian education.
