The Southlands Foundation ~ Spring 2005 Update
Happy Spring everyone! This update is
long overdue, so get comfortable.
We have several upcoming events that I want to make sure you are all aware
of.
~ April 30, Saturday, is our first
Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show.
I am pleased to say we have a record number of our own students
participating and have gotten several early entries from outside
competitors. Please keep your fingers crossed that the rain holds off. The
food booth for this show will benefit our 4H Club, the Gentle Giants. Come
prepared to eat!
~ May 7, Saturday, we will be hosting a
Community Day. There is a sign-up sheet for volunteers on the bulletin board
outside the office. We will need help with pony rides, the Southlands
information table, a drink concession table, and manning the barn. The hours
are from 12:00 - 4:00.
The sign-up sheet is broken down by times, so no one has to do any one thing
for four hours. Please tell your friends to come and see why Southlands is
such a valuable community resource.
~ May 15, Sunday, is our first Schooling
Dressage Show and Combined Test. Volunteers are needed that day for ring
stewards, scribes, and runners.
~ June 4, Saturday, is a fundraiser
luncheon in the VIP pavilion at HITS. This is going to be a wonderful event,
so please mark your calendars and plan on attending. If you haven't been to
the HITS show grounds yet, it is a must see. Tom Struzzieri and his team
have built a world-class show grounds that will host the Rolex National Show
Jumping Championship, among other wonderful events. We are fortunate to have
Tom as a previous Board member and he is still with us in an advisory
capacity. He is a strong supporter of Southlands and our mission and has
graciously offered the VIP pavilion to us. Invitations will be sent out in
the near future. There is also an antique show that weekend and item
appraisals are available for a $5.00 donation, which will benefit the Family
of Woodstock organization. If you are interested in attending, could you
please let me know. Volunteers are also needed to help coordinate this
event.
~ June 11, Saturday, is our Annual
Meeting. All members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be at 4:00
followed by a potluck dinner. A sign-up sheet will be posted closer to the
date.

I am pleased to say we were the recipients of two wonderful stock donations
totaling $25,000.
Please keep this option in mind when you are considering a gift to
Southlands.
This is the time of year for replenishing our supplies. Items we always
appreciate are fly spray, fly masks, shampoo, mane & tail brushes (these
have a special way of disappearing) and tack sponges and cleaner.
We are also in need of some new outdoor benches and/or chairs.
Any contributions towards those items would be greatly appreciated.
Summer Programs:
We still have some space in our Summer Program sessions. Please
notify the office if you need a registration form or speak to your
instructor for more information.
Lessons:
Please remember if you have to cancel a lesson, there are many
opportunities for make-ups!
Pam and the instructors would be more than happy to help you find an
alternate time.
Watch the bulletin board and email for upcoming trail ride opportunities!
Thank you to Kris Glass for planting the beautiful pansies!
