Horse Donations
The Southlands Foundation, oldest riding school in the Hudson Valley, is seeking donations of quality schoolmasters for dressage, hunter/jumper, equitation and combined training. We have a long history and excellent reputation for the best quality school horses in the area. We work hard to keep them fit and sound and take great pride in their training and care.
If you have a horse to donate, we would gladly speak to you further. We will review your application and video and then a member of our staff will contact you.
Each potential donation is asked to come for a trial period, not to exceed 30 days. All shipping expenses are the responsibility of the owner and are tax deductible if the horse is accepted. We ask for a trial period so that we can assess the horse over a period of time. After the trial period, you will be notified as to whether or not we feel the horse is a fit for our program. We may decide to have a pre-purchase exam performed, which is the owner’s expense. If the horse is not accepted, we request arrangements be made for them to leave our facility within ten days of notification.
In cases of acceptance, owner’s have their horse appraised. This is entirely for the owner’s benefit (and at their expense), but most accountants recommend it, as it provides an official document of supporting evidence for the IRS.
