Equine-assisted Learning & Therapy

At Southlands, we offer equine-assisted therapy programs that create meaningful connections between people and horses in a calm, supportive, and natural environment. Our approach focuses primarily on unmounted interactions, allowing participants to engage with horses through grooming, leading, and guided activities on the ground. These sessions are designed to build trust, confidence, and emotional awareness while providing a unique and powerful setting for personal growth. Horses are highly intuitive animals, and their ability to respond to human behavior in real time creates opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection that are difficult to replicate in more traditional settings.

We work with a range of partners and participants, including individuals and groups from organizations such as the Anderson Center for Autism, Ramapo for Children, and Samaritan Daytop Village. Our programs serve children, adolescents, and adults with diverse needs, including developmental differences, behavioral health challenges, and those seeking support in building life skills and emotional resilience. For individuals, the benefits can include improved confidence, communication, focus, and self-regulation. For organizations, our programs offer a structured, engaging, and therapeutic complement to existing services, helping participants develop skills that carry over into school, work, and daily life.
